MAYOR THOMAS’ HEALTHY HOMES INITIATIVE

THE PEOPLE’S PURSUIT OF HEALTH. WEALTH. MIND. BODY. SOUL. HAPPINESS.

Today, February 11, 2019, Mayor Richard Thomas will launch the “HEALTHY HOMES INITIATIVE” at 4:00 PM via a LIVESTREAM roundtable discussion in the Mayor’s Conference at Mount Vernon City Hall located at One Roosevelt Square, Mount Vernon, NY 10550.

The City of Mount Vernon is recognized as the third fastest growing economy in the State of New York. This is largely attributed to the sharp drop in crime (down over 40% since 2012), steep uptick in property values (increased by 10% each year since 2015), and strengthened quality of life (City Fireworks, UniverSoul Circus, Slide The City, City Fest, Pumpkin Blaze, Winter Wonderland to name a few) since millennial Mayor Richard Thomas has taken office.

Mount Vernon’s official motto was set in 1892 as “The City of Happy Homes.” Mayor Thomas desires to reclaim that identity with the “Healthy Homes Initiative” — a Citywide campaign to engage residents on health, wellness, and the pursuit of happiness across all categories including (but not limited to) agricultural, educational, environmental, energy, financial, social, physical, and spiritual. Mayor Thomas’ vision is to provide a hard-working people with a cohesive series of panel discussions on timely, engaging topics to help people achieve their goals and sustainably thrive in the new future ahead. The initiative will also include job fairs, health fairs, and creative community events to promote “Healthy Homes” and build upon existing efforts like the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s “Healthy Homes Program.”

Mayor Thomas’ “Healthy Homes Initiative” will officially launch on Monday, February 11, 2019, at 4:00 PM through a LIVESTREAM panel discussion notably featuring:

· Loida Lewis, widow of the 1st Black $Billion DealMaker Reginald F. Lewis

· Yandy Smith, actress, activist, and businesswoman who credits Mayor Richard Thomas for getting the lights back on at the Brooklyn Federal Prison

· Dr. Jeff Gorman, Deputy Superintendent, Mount Vernon City School District

The roundtable discussion will start, promptly at 4:00 PM, and last approximately 45 minutes. Mayor Thomas will lay out the vision of the program and participants will discuss the importance of bolstering the adoption of these issues to make Mount Vernon healthier. The LIVESTREAM discussion will be held in the Mayor’s Conference Room and is open press.
