On Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at 9:45am in the Mayor’s Conference Room, the Board of Estimate and Contract held a meeting where Mayor Thomas presented urgent item to be addressed by Comptroller Maureen Walker and City Council President Roberta Apuzzo.

Of the twenty-six (26) items on the agenda, four (4) specific items represented real and significant fiscal threats to the City of Mount Vernon:

  1. Resolution in support of compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the “Clean Water Act” for the City of Mount Vernon. Resolution 1
  2. Resolution authorizing saving and creating various positions originally funded by the Urban Renewal Agency to the City of Mount Vernon and the City Budget. Resolution 2
  3. Retaining Anthony J. Maiocchi, Esq. for collections of due money and defense of lawsuits related to outstanding default judgments on City Court Matters. Retainer 1
  4. Retaining Ruskin Moscou Faltischek, PC as legal counsel for the Mount Vernon City School District v. CMV, Mayor Richard Thomas and the Department of Panning & Community Development. Retainer 2

The pattern and practice of Comptroller Walker and City Council President Apuzzo are solely motivated by their “political animus”. This is a continuation of them neglecting to perform their duties of serving and protecting the best interests of the people of Mount Vernon. They had no words or actions on any of these urgent items. They did not speak up for you. They did not protect you.
