The City of Mount Vernon requires landlords/property owners of multiple-family dwelling and apartment buildings to maintain indoor temperature of at least 68 degrees when the outdoor temperatures falls below 55 degrees, between October 1 through May 31.

**Property owners who fail to provide heat and hot water face violations and penalties from the City of Mount Vernon**

COLD WEATHER TIPS

· Check on your neighbors, especially the elderly.

· Keep animals indoors.

· Don’t overload electrical power strips

· KEEP space heaters away from curtains, blankets, and flammable materials

· DON’T use a stove /oven or grill to heat your home. This is dangerous and can lead to fires or carbon monoxide.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY

The City of Mount Vernon is under a winter weather advisory from 1:00am, Thursday, January 4th until 1:00am, Friday, January 5th.

Snowfall is expected in the range of 3” to 6” with wind gusts of up to 40 miles per hour.

Heavy Snowfall is anticipated during the early morning rush hours. Please do not travel unless absolutely necessary. If you must travel, allow extra time and proceed with caution. High winds can lead to fast-moving snow that causes limited vision.

ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING IS SUSPENDED FOR THURSDAY, JANUARY 3, 2018
