City of Mount Vernon Heat Advisory

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Westchester County for today, June 18, 2018 from 11 am until 8 pm. Temperatures are expected to reach the mid to high 90’s with a heat index over 100 degrees. Folks are urged to take the following precautions:

Stay cool

· Stay inside in air conditioning.

· Go to air-conditioned places like a library or community center (The Doles or The Armory). For a list of cooling centers, contact the Mount Vernon Recreation Department at 914–665–2420.

· Stay out of the sun and wear a hat.

· Take breaks often.

· Frequently check on family, friends, and neighbors.

· Don’t leave your pets outside or in a car.

Stay hydrated

· Drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty.

· Avoid alcohol and sugary drinks.

· Remind others to drink water.
