Comptroller Alert: Reynolds Places Taxpayers at Risk
Dear Mount Vernon Friends and Family,
Each day Comptroller Deborah Reynolds finds new ways to embarrass the City of Mount Vernon. Today, the city received notification from the Office of New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli that Comptroller Reynolds has not filed any information with their office since she became Comptroller. In fact, she hasn’t even given them her contact information!
This missing information includes the filing of required constitutional tax limit forms and the 2018 property tax cap form. These forms are essential to ensure Mount Vernon taxpayers receive the benefits of the administration’s smart fiscal stewardship as we have consistently remained under the tax cap. Unless the Comptroller files these forms, we will not get the tax return from New York State that we are owed.
In addition to these mandated state filings, Comptroller Reynolds has shirked her duties and continues to obstruct municipal operations. She recently:
- Refused to pay for parts and equipment to repair Public Works vehicles, leaving our fleet completely unprepared for snow and our residents at risk.
- Delayed gas deliveries to fuel the city’s fleet, including police vehicles and fire vehicles as well as the city’s sanitation trucks.
- Refused to give our Veterans Agency $8000 in grant money that New York State gave to the Agency.
- Drained the budget of our Civil Service Department, placing future police and fire department hires at risk of not going forward.
- Refused to pay for City Hall supplies, leaving departments without paper, pens, staples, and other vital materials needed so the city can function.
Comptroller Reynolds is a steward of your money and, as Mount Vernon taxpayers, you have a right to know where your money is and how it is being spent. My office will provide these periodic updates as we continue taking the necessary legal actions to make sure Comptroller Reynolds does her job.
