MOUNT VERNON, NEW YORK (Sept. 13, 2018)- The City of Mount Vernon NY, Mayor Richard Thomas and Friends of Mount Vernon Arts, Recreation & Youth Programs (FMVARYP) present “Mount Vernon CityFest”. The city will explode with excitement for this free family-friendly event taking place on Saturday, September 15, 2018, from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm. (Rain date: Sunday, September 23, 2018, same time/same place.) The festival will be held on Gramatan Avenue between Lincoln Avenue and Sidney Avenue, incorporating Hartley Park.
Mount Vernon CityFest brings the City of Mount Vernon blocks of fun-filled activities and excitement. The festival unites creative talent and the community to generate an artistic backdrop for Mount Vernon. Original art, panel discussions, demonstrations, stages of continuous live and celebrity entertainment, vendors, food courts, a health & wellness pavilion, sports activities, and a children’s lane are offered. Several contests will be held such as the Mount Vernon Beef Patty Eating Contest.
This year’s event will include a children’s lane complete with Bouncy Houses, yummy popcorn treats, a Ninja Fitness Challenge, The Smoke House Fire Safety Trailer with special guest McGruff the Fire Dog, Baby Dunk Contest, and the SmoothieCisen Smoothie Bike which will be ridden by Mayor Thomas and Senator Jamaal Bailey. #HealthyMV
CityFest also features over 50 food vendors from across the city, including a wide variety of cultures and cuisines as well as food trucks.
It wouldn’t be a Mount Vernon CityFest without amazing talent. The event will be filled with a host of extremely talented local artists. This year’s headliners will feature Melba Moore performing an amazing Aretha Franklin Tribute, and the one and only The Lox.
CityFest is a community collaboration led by the Department of Recreation, the FMVARYP, and supported by a host of volunteers, performers, artists and generous sponsors.
