Lies Rejected! Mayor Rich Thomas and Recreation Commissioner Dr. Darren Morton Refutes Lies by City Council, Comptroller Reynolds on the 2019 budget proposal.
“Last week the Mayor asked Commissioner Morton to attend a meeting with himself, Council President and Comptroller Reynolds to view proposed estimates by the Mayor for the 2019 budget. We arrived at the location and unfortunately, in attendance was the Mayor, myself, City Council President and Clerk Brown. This was an opportunity for the 3 branches of Government to come together at the table to discuss the budget and to come to a reasonable resolution to the problem we are in today; Unfortunately, the Comptroller Reynolds was not there to vote.”
Mayor Thomas and Commissioner Morton continue to fight for more funding for the Recreation Department and the Youth Bureau. Mayor Thomas believes that a youth center will transform the city for the better and it will offer a positive alternative that will engage our youth in socialization and support them in learning life skills and trades that will broaden their sense of self enhance their well being.
Here’s an excerpt from Mayor Thomas’ speech, “The City Council and Comptroller have blocked the clean-up operation at Memorial Field and for 4 years have said NO! to passing a Cable Contract that would lower cable prices to $20 per month for seniors.
Can you imagine how many graduations and family events we could have held at Memorial Field had they given me the budget?
Can you imagine how much money could have been saved on cable bills if they would have passed the contract when Obama was president?
Their hate cannot out match my LOVE for Mount Vernon! This is why I will continue to faithfully fight their obstructionist agenda to hurt you, the people.
Their most recent lie is on the budget and their blatant denial of their role in sabotaging Mount Vernon. My budget proposes a 2% rate that is under the tax cap.
The City Council’s budget increases taxes by at least 15%. The fact is their actions speak louder than their FALSE TALK, NO ACTION.”
