Lower Hudson Valley “My Brother’s Keeper” Alliance Quarterly Meeting
On October 18th, Shayne Brooks, Special Assistant to Mayor Richard Thomas and Community liaison for the My Brother’s Keeper Initiative, along with Brother Arthur Muhammed, the liaison for the Mount Vernon City School District, and community stakeholders attended the Lower Hudson Valley My Brother’s Keeper Alliance Quarterly meeting at WESTcop in Elmsford, NY.
At the meeting, there was a presentation by Cora Greenberg, Executive Director of the Westchester’s Children’s Association. Ms. Greenberg was enthusiastic about the partnership between the Lower Hudson Valley MBK Alliance. Ms. Greenberg stressed the importance of each community, as well as The Westchester Children’s Association, sharing the statistical data that they found while researching specific topics in their community.
Edward Lawson, Program Director of the Nepperhan Community Center’s “empowerYOU” programs gave an update on The Campaign for Black Male Achievement (CBMA). CBMA is a national membership network that seeks to ensure the growth, sustainability, and impact of leaders and organizations committed to improving the life outcomes of Black men and boys.
Since 2008, $212 million has been invested in Black Male Achievement (including over $57 Million of CBMA’s own funds), as well as 6 national initiatives catalyzed by CBMA to anchor the growing field of Black Male Achievement.
With nearly 1000 leaders engaged through CBMA offerings to strengthen organizational capacity and build networks, this campaign will continue to benefit the Black and Latino communities.
