Mayor Richard Thomas and The City of Mount Vernon joined with the Westchester office of the US Postal Service on Wednesday to dedicate the Black History Month Forever Stamp in the honor of Lena Horne. An extremely talented artist, Horne was also a fierce activist for civil rights.

Speakers at the stamp dedication included City Council President Lisa Copeland, Reverend Dr. Darren Morton, Mount Vernon Postmaster Caroline Stern, District Manager of Marketing for USPS Larissa Valdez, President of the Mount Vernon Branch NAACP Mattie Little, and Corola A. Jernigan of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, as well as musical selections from Mount Vernon’s Sheryll Brownlee and Sharae Jordan from the USPS.
