Mayor Richard Thomas’ New Year Message
Dear Mount Vernon Friends and Family,
As 2017 draws to a close, I want to wish each and every one of you a Happy New Year. A New Year brings new goals, new challenges, and new opportunities to see our city rise. Like many of you, I am optimistic about our new city government and I am hopeful that the new City Council and Comptroller will work with us to move Mount Vernon forward.
A new year arriving can often seem bittersweet. Many of us think about the challenges of the past year and our hopes and goals for the new one. For myself, and my administration, there is no doubt that Mount Vernon’s best days lie ahead. We will continue to press forward with returning Memorial Field to you. We will strengthen Mount Vernon’s economy and brings jobs back to our city. We will bring you a government that serves you better; that leapfrogs the region with our innovation and commitment to technology, transparency, and accountability. Most importantly, we will continue working for you.
Our challenges may be great but I am confident that we, as one Mount Vernon family, can come together and defeat these challenges. As a new year begins in our four-square miles, I am comforted by the words of Psalm 20:4, a prayer to God to make the plans of his people succeed.
Let’s plan and work together, Mount Vernon.
May God Bless You and May God Bless our City,
Mayor Richard Thomas
