Mayor Richard Thomas Statement on Memorial Field meeting with Westchester County and City Officials
(Wednesday, August 15, 2018) — Mayor Richard Thomas released the following statement on today’s meeting between the Mayor’s Office, Westchester County, Comptroller Deborah Reynolds, and the City Council on Memorial Field.
“Today’s meeting with Westchester County was a real breakthrough. There is now total agreement with our position that Mount Vernon residents deserve an 8-lane track and field to host world-class events. Our visionary plan will make Memorial Field a major venue for sports and entertainment on the eastern seaboard. While some details remain to be worked out, we are on track to make Memorial Field a revenue generator for the city and county for years to come. This is the type of legacy project we need to cut property taxes, create jobs, and improve quality of life for good.”
