Mayor Richard Thomas Visits Amani Charter School for Drop Everything and Read

On Friday, March 2, 2018, Mayor Richard Thomas joined the students at Amani Charter School for lunch and for DEAR: Drop Everything and Read. While there, Mayor Thomas spoke for a few moments to the crowd of young students, all with their books of choice at the ready. The Mayor spoke about reading, but also about role models. He said that when he was growing up in Mount Vernon some of the parents of the children in that room were role models to him and he asked those students to be role models to his son Harrison who’s five years old.

While there, Mayor Thomas was also challenged to a kickball game by one of the students, a challenge which he promptly and publicly accepted. Stay tuned for the results of that game over the next week.
