MOUNT VERNON GOOD NEWS!
Top Stories: NY Time best-selling author joins Mayor Thomas’ MV Women of Industry Seminar, MV Restaurant Week 2019 kicks off, beautifying MV, work begins on more MTA Bridges, another court victory for MV, and so much more!!
Last week, Queen Diambi of the Congo visited Mount Vernon and shared her mission of spreading love and kindness across the world, one hug at a time. While we shared a meal, I posed a question to her and the distinguished guests in the room, “How do we begin reconciliation?” The responses varied but shared the values of opening our hearts and minds. The time is NOW to spread love across the community and across the world.
Queen Diambi’s mission is all of our God-given mission to spread love, because like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”
My love for the people of this City is unconditional and unwavering. This is why I held an African drum circle in December to bring everyone together, and asked Baba Abishai to lead another one in April and welcome the entire city to drum with us, achieve reconciliation and advance the process of progress.
I also want to thank and acknowledge the Westchester Homeowner Coalition who held a productive discussion, bringing us together with Assemblyman J. Gary Pretlow, County Legislator Lyndon Williams, and Councilwoman Janice Duarte. We made significant headway on solving problems, detailing the undeniable positive results to date, and left with a strong sense of urgency to support Councilwoman Duarte’s effort to get the City Council to fund Clean Water Act compliance. Mount Vernon needs you to contact Duarte’s colleagues on the Council and urge them to allocate the $430,000 in grant matching dollars to activate $3.6 million in free grants.
Call the City Council at 914–665–2351 and tell them to allocate the grant matching funds to unlock the millions in grant dollars available to Mount Vernon.

In anticipation of the City-wide drum circle in April, today, I’m calling on each and every member of the Mount Vernon Family to take those words to heart, come together with LOVE of City, LOVE of Family to move Mount Vernon Forward! We can drive out the hate and division that has divided our great City for far too long. RISE UP MOUNT VERNON and declare that we REJECT HATE in FAVOR OF HOPE, spreading light and love today and every day!
