Mayor Thomas Holds Rally for Reform
Today, Mayor Richard Thomas held the Rally for Reform event at Mount Vernon City Hall, urging our nation’s lawmakers to finally address gun violence in a serious and effective way. Young people from Mount Vernon were present, holding signs like #NeverAgain and #AmINext to show their frustration with government’s failure to act after past tragedies. Many of the young people that spoke, demanded that Parkland, Florida be the last school shooting our country should ever endure. They voiced their frustration with music and spoken words. The city will continue to hold rallies and sign-up individuals to join Mayor Thomas as we travel to Washington, D.C. for the March 24th “Rally for Our Lives”.
Joining Mayor Thomas was United States Congressman Eliot Engel, City Councilwoman Delia Farquharson, representatives from the offices of Senator Charles Schumer, and County Executive George Latimer.
J.B. Smoove sent a message of support to the students.
