Mayor Thomas Honors Zoning Board of Appeals Chairman Irwin Davison for 40 Years of Service

On October 25, 2018, the Mount Vernon Department of Planning and Community Development invited community residents to a special ceremony to honor Mr. Irwin Davison, Chair of the Mount Vernon Zoning Board of Appeals, as part of National Community Planning Month. The keynote address was delivered by national land use expert Professor John Nolon, Pace University Land Use Law Center. National Community Planning Month is a celebration of the planning process that takes place across the country as community residents participate in land use boards to help their community decide how to best utilize their land resources.

Mr. Davison was recognized for his 40 years of community service to the city of Mount Vernon. Mayor Richard Thomas remarked that Mr. Davison has been an active and dedicated member of the community who has worked tirelessly to make the city better. Mr. Davison was appointed to the Mount Vernon Zoning Board of Appeals in 1978 and has been the Chairman for at least the past 20 years. Professor Nolon shared his perspective on the important democratic process that land boards play in securing sustainable development as cities change over time.

Mr. Irwin was joined by his wife, Ilene Davison, students from the Youth Bureau and friends. Members from the other land use boards were also there to share in this special occasion.
