On Thursday, Mayor Richard Thomas welcomed 22 Mount Vernon entrepreneurs to the first 60-Hour Small Business Training Program. The training is part of the Mayor’s Healthy Homes Initiative recently introduced by Mayor Thomas, which aims to improve the overall quality of life for Mount Vernon residents. For small businesses, this initiative hopes to secure resources to provide successful and sustainable business growth for Mount Vernon entrepreneurs.

The Women’s Enterprise Development Center will deliver the 60-Hour Entrepreneurial Training Program, which is sponsored through a grant from the Community Development Block Grant program administered by the Department of Planning and Community Development. This training program will provide participants with hands-on training in business finance, marketing, operations, and legal issues.

“Helping people achieve their dreams of owning a small business is one of the best ways to create economic opportunities. Small business owners are often the CEO, CFO, accountant, bill collector, and even janitor for their company. This 6o-Hour Small Business Training Program teaches entrepreneurs everything they need to know about running the day to day activities and keeping the lights on. If you have a dream to open your own business, but don’t know how or where to start, this program can change your life.” — Mayor Richard Thomas
