Millions in Unclaimed Funds: Maybe Some of It Is Yours

On Thursday, March 1, 2018, Mayor Richard Thomas was joined by NYS Senator Jamaal Bailey and members of the Mount Vernon City Council to announce that NYS Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli has identified over $130 million in unclaimed funds within the City of Mount Vernon alone. Mayor Thomas and Senator Bailey stressed the importance of the unclaimed funds web page and searching for not just your name, but your friends and family as well, to make sure that any monies out there that may be owed to you are collected. One individual may have a windfall of money hanging out there that they don’t even know about. According to Comptroller DiNapoli, one individual has an unclaimed fund in the amount of $8 million! That’s the largest amount currently in the unclaimed funds, but who knows, maybe it’s yours.
