Mornings With The Mayor — Linkage Radio November 7, 2017
This morning, Mayor Richard Thomas appeared on Mornings with the Mayor on Linkage Radio to discuss the latest news from the City of Mount Vernon including the new deal with the New York Power Authority to replace all the streetlights in the city and the subpoenas issued in connection with Memorial Field.
Mayor Thomas spoke about the latest news reports in which former Mayor Ernie Davis admitted that a “handshake deal” is what lead to the dirty dirt being dumped on Mount Vernon’s crown jewel, Memorial Field. This statement directly contradicts his previous statements on record in which he claimed that the dirt pile was the result of city employees moving dirt around from one area to another. These conflicting statements raise serious concerns about what really happened at our park and who is responsible for the condition it is in today. The issuance of subpoenas and the commencement of a special proceeding is essential to getting to the bottom of what happened.
Mayor Thomas also spoke about his plan to attract new businesses to grow the tax base and alleviate some of the burden on residents and home-owners. This includes his upcoming trip to Dubai next week to speak at the World Economic Forum’s 4th Industrial Revolution Conference. As an edge city, Mount Vernon has been invited to join the Global Forum on Cities to discuss how we are leading transformational change.
