Mount Vernon Kicks Off Black History Month with Black Art Showcase
On Thursday, February 8, 2018, Mayor Richard Thomas and The City of Mount Vernon kicked off Black History Month with a Black Art Showcase at City Hall. The evening featured works of art from local artists as well as art students from the Amani Charter School.
Though Mayor Thomas was away on business for The City of Mount Vernon, he did record a message for the audience stressing the importance of Black History Month and quoting Dr. Martin Luther King. Speakers at the event included Deputy Fire Commissioner Deborah Norman, Council Woman Delia Farquharson, Pastor Arthur Rose, Rev. Marcia Pennicott, and New York State Senator Jamaal T. Bailey.
