MVHS Retires Shamoya McKenzie’s Jersey at Last Home Game of the Season

Mayor Richard Thomas joined Mount Vernon High School on Friday in a ceremony retiring the jersey of high school basketball star, Shamoya McKenzie. McKenzie, was an athletic powerhouse whose life who tragically passed away in December of 2016.

Mayor Thomas joined city representatives, members of her basketball team, and the Mount Vernon High School athletic community, in hanging her number from the rafters. The retirement of her number speaks to her talent, ability, and unique skills that will set her apart for generations to come.
