Every day, the City of Mount Vernon loses money because we are without an approved cable franchise renewal agreement. The current contract has been held by the City Council since 2016. Fortunately, the new City Council appears to be willing to work with the Administration and is considering implementing this contract very soon. This contract is good for Mount Vernon. It will save seniors and eligible residents hundreds of dollars a month in cable bills. It will wire City Hall for public access capabilities leading to better transparency and accountability and it will require the big cable companies to pay the city millions every year. This money is essential for government operations. It will allow Mount Vernon to easy the property tax burden but still provide youth programs, senior events, investments in infrastructure, and other essential services. Call the City Council today at 914–665–2351 and tell them you support the passage of the cable contract. Click here for more info.
