On Tuesday, October 23, 2018 the Mayor met with all city Commissioners to discuss ways to keep the public informed about the improvements that their departments are making across Mount Vernon. Specifically, the Mayor wants all departments to submit regular reports to update residents on what’s going on.

For example, the City is moving forward with projects that constituents should know about, such as the installation of new street lights and the many community activities designed to improve quality of life for families, seniors and youth. Mayor Thomas also wants the Commissioners to track “unknown unkowns” as they develop, so they can alert the public as information they may need becomes available.

One area of particular concern is the failure of Comptroller Reynolds to pay more than a $1 million in city bills, despite proper authorizations and money available in the budget. One story is from Director of Veterans Services Kristyn Reed. Every year Mount Vernon holds a beautiful Memorial Day Parade for our veterans and residents. Unfortunately, Comptroller Reynolds has yet to pay the vendors who put on the parade back in May. This disrespects our veterans and all our residents.
