Small Business Round Table Focuses on Access to Capital
Access to capital is the life blood of every business, and with that in mind, the Mount Vernon Small Business Round Table Series featured several lending experts this month.
More than 80 people attended the event on Jan. 24 at the Wartburg Home. Speakers included representatives from the U.S, Small Business Administration, Excelsior Growth Fund, the New York Business Development Corporation as well as Planning Commissioner Chantelle Okarter and Wartburg CEO David Gentner.
Beth Goldberg, the New York district director of the Small Business Administration, was the keynote and the morning-long event also featured panel discussions on assisting small businesses in securing loans ranging from $5,000 to $5 million.
The Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce invited their members Kristin Krauskopf and Una Black, both Certified Public Accountants, to make a presentation on the new tax law and how it may affect businesses.
Mayor Richard Thomas, who was in Washington D.C. attending the National Conference of Mayors, provided a video welcome where he encouraged participants to engage the experts.
“Please share the wisdom with your friends and colleagues,” he said. “Don’t leave any good ideas behind. Take them with you.”
Next month’s event will feature executives from Google talking about ways businesses can optimize search results to create competitive advantages. Save the date for February 13 at the Roosevelt Square Professional Building, 11 Prospect Avenue, 3rd floor. There will be two sessions: noon to 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The mission of the Small Business Round Table Seminars is to connect Mount Vernon’s small business community with resources to help them expand their business, improve the service or product they offer, capture more of the customer base here in Mount Vernon and attract customers from neighboring towns, and help them compete and win private and government contracts.
