Small Business Round Table — MWBE Seminar
Mayor Richard Thomas and the Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce partnered for April’s Mount Vernon Small Business Round Table Seminar. The seminar focused on registration and certification of MWBEs (Minority and Women Business Enterprises), VBEs (Veteran’s Business Enterprises), and DBEs (Disadvantaged Business Enterprises). Guest speakers from Lehman College, the Women’s Enterprise Development Center(WEDC), and the St. Paul law firm spoke about what is required to qualify as an MWBE, VBE, and DBE. These technical assistance providers also talked about how companies can compete for federal, state and county government contracts. Billions of dollars of contracted work is available each year, and New York State has set a goal for 30 percent of those contracts to be awarded to businesses that are certified. Businesses can connect with the Lehman College and WEDC to access technical assistance free of charge.
