City of Mount Vernon Declares Snow Emergency
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for ALL of Westchester County.
Mayor Richard Thomas has declared a snow emergency in the City of Mount Vernon. Snow and icy conditions are impacting the evening commute. Residents are asked to PLEASE avoid unnecessary travel and refrain from parking along snow emergency routes.
It is essential that residents give the Department of Public Works crews space to plow and perform snow removal operations.
The Administration is actively working with federal, state, and local authorities as well as the Mount Vernon City School District and we are collaborating on the winter storm response. The Department of Public Works has spreaders and salters across the city. Police and Fire have dispatched additional personnel who will be assisting with traffic management and public safety throughout the storm.
The administration will continue to take all necessary measures to protect the health and welfare of the general public during this inclement weather. We are thankful to the hard-working men and women of Public Works, Police, Fire, and other city agencies who have worked around the clock to prepare for this storm.
Earlier this week, we briefed the public on the serious concerns with Comptroller Deborah Reynolds and her inexplicable refusal to process routine Public Works invoices.
Her dereliction of duty has made snow removal operations more challenging; however, we are continuing to respond and deploy throughout the city.
For weeks, my administration has been urging her to process payments for truck parts so our dedicated Public Works team can repair our fleet. As you can see in the below picture, these invoices date back as far as March. Only recently, after weeks of shining the light on her obstructionist tactics, did she release these checks for payment.
Mount Vernon Deserves Better!
First it was toilet paper for our seniors, then it was kittens with broken tails, now it’s our snow plows and salt spreaders. Enough is enough! The city’s petition to Governor Andrew Cuomo to remove her from office is here. We urge all concerned citizens to join us in a call for immediate action!
