STOP SAYING NO! AND START SAYING YES TO PROGRESS!
Dear Neighbor,
I stand with Legislator Lyndon Williams on urging more action on cleaning up Memorial Field!
His concern is my concern and we all ought to be concerned that the budget adopted by the City Council set $0 (ZERO) dollars aside for Memorial Field, the DPW Yard, or fixing broken sewers. This is why I vetoed their latest move to “rob Peter to pay Paul.”
The sad truth is that all of this drama is completely unnecessary.
The fact is the budget can be fixed by the City Council in one fell swoop. They simply have to vote to amend the budget assumptions and accept the olive branch that my administration and I have repeatedly offered year after year.
Yet their answer remains NO!
Despite their own admissions that their broken budget does nothing to serve the people, they remain committed to “NO!”
Who does “NO!” serve? What does “NO!” do to clean up Memorial Field? How does “NO!” help us get anything done?
What we do
know is that:
NO GAS = NO GO.
NO PARTS = NO FIX.
NO MONEY = NOTHING HAPPENS!
Court victory after court victory. Court order after court order directing them to “come up with the money,” and STILL THE ANSWER FROM THE CITY COUNCIL AND COMPTROLLER IS… you guessed it… NO!
It’s beyond time for action, so join me in joining Legislator Lyndon Williams on urging the City Council to do the right thing and SAY YES TO MEMORIAL FIELD!
Tell them to accept the Budget Olive Branch and Build Up Mount Vernon!
Tell them to STOP SAYING NO! AND START SAYING YES TO PROGRESS!
Why choose to lose when the people can win?
Encourage them to reject the worst politics and make the best policy decision.
Tell them to simply:
SAY YES TO PROGRESS FOR OUR CHILDREN!
SAY YES TO PROGRESS FOR OUR SENIORS!
SAY YES TO PROGRESS FOR OUR FAMILIES!
SAY YES TO PROGRESS FOR MOUNT VERNON!
Come on Mount Vernon! Let’s get with it! It’s simple — Let’s get the City Council to help us get Memorial Field Back NOW!!!
Sincerely,
Mayor Richard Thomas

Subject: Memorial Field
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
It has been over 10 years since Memorial Field was closed and residents deprived of its use. The County and State have allocated over $12 million for the restoration of Memorial Field. However, the work cannot get started until the Mayor, City Council and Comptroller work together to remove 36,000 tons of debris that was illegally dumped on Memorial Field in 2015. Earlier this year, the City Council President and Comptroller said that sufficient money was set aside in budget and a capital fund to pay for the cleanup. On March 27, 2019, the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation approved the City’s plan for removal of the debris. Therefore, the City officials should have no obstacles to getting this done. They should have commenced a process for public bidding for contractors to remove the debris from the Field. That was not done.
I’m convinced that Mount Vernon residents must get actively involved in a massive campaign to save Memorial Field by making their voices heard on the clean up of the illegal dumping. Therefore, as your County Legislator, I will organize a campaign to help residents have their voices heard on Memorial Field. I can’t do it without your involvement. If you care about Memorial Field and want to help save it, please contact my office: 914–995–2837 or e-mail me at Williams@westchesterlegislators.com. Please leave your contact information.
Sincerely,
