The Shape of Water (Bills)

New York City has recently raised their water transmission rates. Since Mount Vernon purchases its water from New York City; this transmission increase has appeared on water bills. Notice of New York City’s transmission increase was published in The Journal News every Sunday from May 13, 2018 to June 24, 2018.

But apparently one Councilman didn’t receive his water bill and the attached notice, which is curious since it goes to every property owner in Mount Vernon.

To say we are disappointed in what appears to be a deliberate spreading of misinformation is an understatement.

When News 12 reached out to us yesterday, Water Superintendent John Arena made it clear. New York City water transmission rates increased and caused the overall bill to rise.

The old guard needs to give it a rest. First, they denied there was illegal dumping at Memorial Field, then they obstruction on clean water compliance, now they want to manufacture pulp fiction and propaganda like good “Deep State” loyalists. It’s SAD — Plain and Simple.

As citizens, we must always be cautious when it comes to those who speak with the intent to shock and not to inform. We must be mindful of the misleaders who deliberately leave out critical context, especially when quoting others or cherry-picking figures. We must be weary of misleaders who ignore relevant and important history to serve their hidden agenda. We must guard against misleaders who promote conflict with highly selective accounts of events. We must protect against misleaders who try to make numbers look bigger or smaller or distort trends more significant than it really is.

When you look at Mount Vernon for past quarter century, you will see abuse after abuse. That obstructionism has to come to an end.

We will never stop fighting to do the work of the people.
