Westchester County Youth Bureau’s Invest Fest
On Friday, October 12th, 2018, the Westchester County Youth Bureau’s Invest Fest event was put in place to highlight the existing Invest In Kids (IIK) network of youth service providers, in an effort to emphasize the importance of positive youth development. This was accomplished by leveraging IIK providers and resources to offer an array of fun, interactive, and educational offerings that support social, emotional, and physical well-being. The youth were able to interact with other young people throughout the county while gaining access to existing youth services.
“The City of Mount Vernon thanks our County Executive George Latimer, Westchester County Youth Bureau Executive Director DaMia Harris, Legislator Lyndon Williams, and Legislator David Tubiolo for the hard work they do for our Mount Vernon boys and girls,” said Mayor Thomas. “We continue to push for more investment in our youth and we are deeply grateful to our county leadership for their partnership and support.”
The Mount Vernon Youth Bureau contributed to this event by providing the Fatal Vision Impairment Simulation Goggles activity. These goggles are used as a hands-on prevention tool that allows students to experience how alcohol impairs balance, vision, reaction time and judgment. There are six impairment levels. These levels simulated the impairment associated with particular Blood Alcohol Concentration from less than .06 to .25 B.A.C. concentrations.
The benefit of this activity was that it demonstrated our susceptibility to impairment from alcohol.
