On Monday, January 15th, members of the Mount Vernon Youth Bureau’s VICTORY (Volunteers Inspiring Change Through Opportunities Reaching Youth) Program honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by volunteering a “Day of Service” at the Wartburg Adult Care Community Recreation Center. The community service day allowed the youth to engage the seniors and gain insight on the value of Dr. King’s life.

The VICTORY Program participants and the seniors had lunch together, while discussing the Civil Rights Movement and other important historical events, giving the youth a deeper understanding into their significance through fist-hand accounts. Youth also spoke to the seniors about what they to do to make the world as peaceful as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. envisioned.
